Walthers Elevated Storage Shed

The Walthers Elevated Storage Shed has been available for many years, and is suitable for nearly any locale and era. The kit found its way to my work bench recently and while it has been many years since I've built a structure, this one came out well enough to suit a new diorama I will be creating loosely based on a location on the north end of Plant City.

The structure was painted with Tamiya acrylics and applied over primer. The signage was found online and applied over the painted structure to suit the 1960s era I model. The roof was created using the hairspray chipping method albeit with some modification. The roof was primed and painted Tamiya metallic gray. After some trial and error, I repainted it a mix of Tamiya Hull red tinted with white to capture a faded rust color. Once dry, the roof was sprayed with two coats of hairspray, and over coated with Tamiya flat aluminum. Once dry, the roof was wet sanded with 2500 grit sanding pads to bring the red back through the aluminum.

The structure was weathered with thinned oils, acrylics, and pre-shaded paint which helps to capture the look of used structure that will ultimately serve some bagged phosphate boxcars. The only issue with the structure is the roof and alignment for the proper pitch. A set of Bachmann magnetic adjustable gluing clamps are on the way.

This is a great structure that can certainly find use on any layout and I'm quite pleased with the resulting roof treatment and overall appearance.
